Blackout Blinds Uses and Styles

Blackout Blinds Uses and Styles
Blackout blinds, blackout curtains, and other room-darkening window treatments are not only functional but also decorative. For rooms where babies and shift workers sleep during the day, very bright rooms, and other rooms that are used for a special purpose such as media rooms, blackout window coverings block outside light to darken the room.

Blackout window treatments are traditionally known for blocking light from a sunny room, but they also have other advantages. They provide privacy reduce noise from the street and neighbors, provide insulation from heat and cold, save energy, and block drafts from windows that are not airtight.

Available in a variety of styles, fabrics, sizes, and colors, blackout window coverings coordinate with any décor. Blackout curtains are usually insulated with a thermal backing making them energy efficient. They come in a variety of fabrics, colors, patterns, and sizes for use on windows and sliding doors. Whether your style is silk, suede, polyester, or cotton, they can be ordered to meet your desired decorating needs. If you require a different color curtain for each room, you can purchase panels with white backing so all the windows look similar when viewed from the street. Room-darkening curtains come in rod pocket top, tab top, or grommet top panels for use with a variety of decorative rods. If you already have curtains, blackout drapery liner panels are available that attach with hooks to your current curtains.

Blackout shades are available in cellular, roller, or Roman shades and offer the same privacy and darkening ability of curtains. Cellular or honeycomb fabric shades are lined with Mylar which stops 100 percent of light and UV rays from coming through. Blackout roller shades-- reminiscent of the older vinyl roller shades--fill the window space when rolled down and are compact when raised. Blackout Roman shades come in flat, pleated, or cascade styles and can be purchased in a multitude of colors, fabrics, and textures.

Blackout curtains, blackout shades, and other room darkening window treatments can be installed by a do-it-yourself family member or professionally installed by the retailer from whom they were purchased.
